I need an outdoor security camera system, capable of shooting in total darkness, that can…?
…record from 50 ft. away.
I need to be able to record a neighbor trespassing and scattering rubbish on my property, but I live over 1/4 mile from their house. AC power is available at a light pole I have but batteries would work also. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thanks.

You can not shoot in total darkness and even an infra camera will not give you an image worth trying to identify a person (in court particularly).
Recommend you get a a few flood lights with motion sensors attached to them and point at a few angles of the property. You may be able to hook a camera into the sensor circuit so it run when the sensor kicks on the lights and turns off when the lights go out. (this depends a lot on your recorder and the on/off power system it uses).
Otherwise run the camera and hope to catch something when the lights come on.
Even with floods, 50 feet maybe hard to identify the person(s), but you will be able to see if it is people , pets or wild animals.

Try a game camera. Hunters use these for taking shots of trails where they think there might be game. The benefit is that these are also camouflaged so they can blend in if you put it on a tree.
Cabela’s has a selection that include infrared flashes and cameras.

Hunters set up cameras in the areas they want to hunt, to see how much game is there. These digital cameras are battery powered, and use motion detectors to trigger the pictures. Some have infrared, so they can’t be seen when they take the picture. They are built to be outside in the rain and sun. Put it in a hidden place if possible, because they can get stolen.
