We realize how much energy we have wasted until now….

Now what about in 10 years? Is there yet another technology around the corner to consume even less electricity?

Latest white LED’s produce a lot of lumens per electric Watt, will they ever make it into a bulb to consume even less than today’s CFL? Will their color (white-blue) ever going to become a nice pleasant white?

This is really, really, really important. Global warming is going to effect this world BIG-TIME! We need to work together NOW and help stop this! Kids, ya you kids like me, we can do a lot to stop this! You can save up money and buy energy efficient light bulbs to replace EVERY SINGLE light in you’re house. If everyone does this than we can stop global warming for at least 100yrs! Beg you’re parents! If you’re parents say this is nothing but nonsense, they’re wrong, they don’t see the big picture! We, the kids need to tell certain grown-ups they’re trashing and ruining our planet! We, the kids need to put out the big picture that our earth, the very one we stand, sleep, fight, love and die on is dieing. It is not fair that we the kids have to live on a polluted planet. No more greenhouses! No more regular light bulbs! Less power plants! Less cars! Less electricity! We can save the world if we just work together! Grow up and become a scientist! Study new ways of making gas for cars less polluted! This is supposed to be a clean world and our ancestor’s messed it up! Grown-ups! Kids! Anyone you know who is a scientist or anyone you’re friends know is a scientist, tell them to make new ways of having a less polluted earth! Become a scientist! Tell you’re friends to become a scientist! Tell you’re friends to tell everyone they know to become a scientist, buy energy efficient light bulbs, get the big picture, do research! PASS IT ON!!! PASS IT ON!!! WHO’S WITH ME??? WHO AGREES WITH ME??? DON’T BE AFRAID TO LET IT OUT!!! DON’T BE AFRAID TO TELL THE TRUTH!!! PASS IT ON!!! TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!! GET THE BIG PICTURE!!! SAVE THE WORLD!!! OUR WORLD!!! NOW WHOS WITH ME?????????
What the heck guys! You people out there who don’t care what happens to our planet than go aqhead and sit on you’re ass’s. For those people who do want to help, we can stop it. If everyone go’s out and buys energy efficient lightbulbs than we can stop polutoin for at least 100yrs! Please guys, the world needs us for crying out loud!!! People, come on! We got to work together! You guys arent taking this seriusly! If you want to live in 20 yrs with the whole world of animals and people all being crammed on one continant??? Do you want to have catagory 4 hurricanes??? Huge tsunamis that could whipe out from Cape Cod to freaking NEW YORK??? Do you want to have strong earthquakes that causes so much damage it could go off the scale??? Polar bears are dieing! Ice is melting! If you think the planet is not in danger from getting 1 freaking degree warmer SCREW YOU!!!!!! The world NEEDS us. Grown-ups are MESSING UP OUR PLANET!!! Even if you don’t care tell friends and family, mabe they will!!!

In my new apartment I need to pay for the electric bill, but everything else is covered by the landlord, so I have a few questions about how I can use less electricity and how much certain appliances affect my monthly bill.
We have gas heat, so heat isn’t an issue. I also have an energy efficient AC for when summer comes. All the appliances in the apartment are brand new (they were installing them when I was viewing the apartment) and they are also energy efficient.

General tips for using less electricity?

Should I use hot water from the sink to do dishes or should I use the dishwasher? How much more expensive would using the dishwasher be?

How much electricity do small TVs use. Cost monthly?

Hair straighteners and blow dryers?

Does the amount of food you have in your freezer or refrigerator affect how much energy it’s using? My roommate told me the more food in there the less electricity it uses…

Should I buy energy efficient light bulbs for all the light fixtures in the apartment? How much money would they save me monthly?

Is it more expensive to use an electric stove/oven or the microwave? (new oven but microwave is pretty old)

How much electricity would a mini fridge use? Cost monthly on electric bill? (A best guess is fine. My mini fridge is about 2 years old).

How much of a difference would there be in the electric bill if I left my computer on when I slept (about 6-8 hours a night) than if I turned it off during this time? Would the electric bill be significantly different each month if it were off for those hours? Would turning off the monitor but leaving the rest of the computer on help? Significantly?

Last question: Do appliances still use power if they are plugged in, but not turned on? My roommate thinks we should leave everything unplugged until we want to use it, because they’ll still use a lot of electricity? Is this true? And if it is, how much electricity would everything be using?

Few people like it! One of them being me.
When I press a prank lighter, the voltage running through my body makes me laugh hysterically, my face goes red like a tomato… At lower voltages (example: when I touched my long gone CRT monitor with one hand and the other on the metal radiator surprisingly electricity streamed through me) I feel totally relaxed, almost meditative.
WHY the heck does THAT happen? What changes occur in the body to make it pleasant to some?

I already only travel when necessary, turn lights off when leaving the room, have the new lights that use less energy, push mow my 3 city lots, have mostly energy star appliances, etc… the common ways (that I can afford).
Just turning lights off when leaving a room, switching to the new lights (curly q’s – I don’t know their proper name), and taking shorter/cooler showers — I have seen a steady decline in my usage of electricity.

I want to know if there is anything else that I could do to save energy and money that people would not normally think of.

I would like to have geothermal heat/cooling system but cannot spend that much and cannot get a loan to do so. So I have an efficient heating/cooling system and try to get fresh air on nicer days (below 90 degrees).

Please help me come up with some more ideas/solutions to save energy and dollars!

I’m always hearing about these stupid spiral bulbs that supposed to last 3-5 years, but I use them all the time and theyre always burning out, and if Im working on my artwork they just dont get bright enough, Or if you walk into the bathroom you could stubb your toe on something because the light has to like charge for a second before it comes on. I think they would be good for outside street lamps or something that runs all day long, but indoors they suck. What do you think?
Oh and I have 3 in my living room ceiling fan right now because thats how many it takes to light up the room. which is 15×3=45 watts total or 1x 45 watt bulb that will last longer and is lower priced.
I’ve tried the bulbs in lamps, ceiling fans, outside, inside rooms. I really think they burn out faster when turned on repeatedly like in a bathroom, but the only way I see them worth buying are if your using them outside, but I will change some of them out with incondescants. I try to stay enviromentally friendly with electricity and do reccommend the bulbs but only for low lighting and low use applications
I dont want people to think that cfl’s are not worth saving $ on energy costs, but just use them wisely or you’ll end up wating more money but they are good for certain applications like when using a generator for electricity, streetlights, closets etc.. I really dont believe that thats the biggest threat to earth, because if the rainforest is being destroyed at the rate it is,it is the lungs of the earth and saving energy wont matter, thanks for the answers
