The old light bulbs — which were round and used 60 to 100 watts are being phased out in Canada –(I forget which year they will no longer be available for purchase)

As a result the old light bulbs are on sale everywhere

Ontario Hydro , top scientist David Suzuki and so on are advocating for the new energy efficient light bulbs

Suzuki has been putting the message into a Canadian format and spreading it

"Less electricity equals more beer"

The say you can save about 45 dollars a year per light bulb — so I thought make that 36 dollars a year or 3 dollar a month times 10 light bulbs –30 dollars a month or 360 per year

I have been buying them with the idea that I will save money on my next hydro bill ( more money for beer) and that I am doing something good to reduce power consumption

———– Here is the only draw back to using them I have found — there can be up to a 5 second delay when turning them on to lighting the room — other than that it appears brighter than the regular bulbs for slightly less than 1/4 of the electricity 13 watts compared to 60

Has any of this all of this or some of this het the US yet ?

The ceiling light in my room has two 26W helical energy efficient light bulbs in it. The total wattage the fixture can handle is 60W. This afternoon I noticed that the light bulb was smoking. I immediately turned the light off. When I took the bowl-cover off of the light the bulb was no longer smoking, but I could smell electrical smoke. Why did it do this, and what do I need to do to fix it??

im 17 and trying to go green.i already use my own bags at the grocery store,i try to recycle as much as possible and i use energy efficient light bulbs. what else could i do to help the earth and save money?.

I just received a 72 hour notice from my landlord that they will be coming into my apartment to change the light bulbs to energy efficient light bulbs. The notice states that it is mandatory and does not give an option to opt out in any way. Are they within their legal right by doing this?

I dont believe on global warming… There is no proven facts and when something does arise, the media oversensationalize it. Its quite ridiculous what some people will be conned into buying. Energy efficient light bulbs HA! I dont want the world to end but geez, i think all this donating to Global warming funds, thats a bit much

I dont understand this question of my science homework can someone please help?
Explain why using energy efficient light bulbs instead of an ordinary light bulb reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere.

knowing that the new ones are filled with mercury?? Are the new more energy efficient light bulbs better in the long run when they begin to burn out and we begin dumping mercury into our landfills and eventually into the soil and groundwater? or does the government have some sort of recycling program for them.. Do you believe people would recycle them if they could considering how few people recycle glass and metal now when it is so easy to do

1) One thing that I would do individually to help with the problem is unplugging unused appliances in my house and recycling more paper and cans/bottles.

2) I would like to ride my bike or walk to school at least twice a week to reduce (para reducir) pollution, but it would be difficult because I live several miles away. Also, I would have to wake up earlier each morning.

3) As a group, I think people who drive to the city to work (para trabajar) should take public transportation instead. People should buy hybrid cars if they can afford them. We should lower thermostats in the winter and higher thermostats in the summer. We should also replace our light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs. Lastly, protect the rainforests.
