How do I know what light my plants need?

I have four pepper plants, two aloe vera plants, one parsley plant, and one chives plant. I want them to not die over the winter, and ideally I would like to plant the veggies and herbs in my garden next summer. I’m thinking I need to buy them an indoor light because otherwise they won’t be getting enough sunshine.

What sort of light should I purchase? Links and frugality are appreciated.

I started a vegetable garden. Recently, the trees have started to shade it. Will this be a problem?

I have started a 14 by 16 ft. vegetable garden. Everything is looking good. I water daily with a hose. When we chose the location it got quite a bit of sun. But, the backyard trees have had some changes since then. Today was the first really sunny day(we are in mid-Michigan) and I noticed that the trees have filled in quite a bit and the garden gets light but not really full full sun. Is this gonna be a problem for my plants? I have the usual…tomatoes, onions, radishes, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, leeks, corn, kale, melons, and a few herbs. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My husband is thinking of cutting some of the trees back but they are very very tall and I don’t want him to hurt himself if the garden will be fine….thanks everyone for any suggestions!

Can I save my indoor herb garden?

I have a small herb garden in a spare bathroom that I have placed a grow light in. Some plants are doing really well, while others aren’t. I cut back most of the herbs in the fall but some of them haven’t started growing new again. The bathroom stay cool but not too cold. We have a clothes dryer in there that we use but it doesn’t get too hot or humid. Thoughts?

Here is what I have:

Doing Well:
Aloe x2
Lovage
Echinecea

Hanging on for dear life:
Patchouli
Stevia

Possibly dormant or dead?:
Sage
Mint – in own container

Pretty sure these are gonners:
Rosemary
Sweet Marjoram
Lemon Balm
* these three were potted together. Perhaps that is why they all perished.

Can I use a desktop sunlight lamp to grow a small indoor garden?

I have a desktop sun light lamp, a lamp that simuates natural light. It says 27 W on the bulb. Can I use this as a growlight to grow herbs?

If this is not suitable, can anyone suggest a low-heat alternative? I don’t want my seeds to suffer because of ineadequate lighting, but I’ve heard that these lamps are good enough for growing.

Thanks!

what is the name of the “garden” that can be purchased at Wal Mart?

There is a plug in, almost already made garden for veggies and herbs that you can plug in through a socket in your home and the special lights help the vegetables/herbs grow. I cannot think of the name .

Can I grow an indoor herb garden that is not in a kitchen window?

I live in an apartment on the 14th floor and don’t have a kitchen window or a yard to grow an herb garden. I do have a large sliding glass door to offer light. Is it possible to grow herbs from seed in my place? I do have a balcony, but Virginia gets too cold at times. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Construction flood lights for indoor growing?

I live in a colder climate and we do not get much sun. I am forced to grow my tomatoes and herbs such as rosemary under artificial light. I found some construction flood lights, I think they are 500 watts. Will they do? I do not know much about lights, I use florescence lights, cool white.
