all of the lights are out out in the basement but the breaker didn't trip?

I was changing a flood light bulb in one of the can lights and was pulling on the ring around the bulb to get a better grip on the bulb and as I was pulling I heard a small pop, the lights all went out, and assumed it was the breaker box. Checked it and none were tripped. All of the plug ins work fine just not the overhead lights. What happened and how do I fix it? Thanks

Did they change the light bulb laws in the US or just Canada ?

The old light bulbs — which were round and used 60 to 100 watts are being phased out in Canada –(I forget which year they will no longer be available for purchase)

As a result the old light bulbs are on sale everywhere

Ontario Hydro , top scientist David Suzuki and so on are advocating for the new energy efficient light bulbs

Suzuki has been putting the message into a Canadian format and spreading it

"Less electricity equals more beer"

The say you can save about 45 dollars a year per light bulb — so I thought make that 36 dollars a year or 3 dollar a month times 10 light bulbs –30 dollars a month or 360 per year

I have been buying them with the idea that I will save money on my next hydro bill ( more money for beer) and that I am doing something good to reduce power consumption

———– Here is the only draw back to using them I have found — there can be up to a 5 second delay when turning them on to lighting the room — other than that it appears brighter than the regular bulbs for slightly less than 1/4 of the electricity 13 watts compared to 60

Has any of this all of this or some of this het the US yet ?
This bulb —

I like Sukuki’s message better – but the above link is far more informative

Light bulb problem (Power, Reistance Voltage…etc..)

A 3-way light bulb has 3 brightness settings (low, medium, & high), but only 2 filaments.
a.) a particular 3-way lightbulb connected across a 120-V line can dissipate 60W, 120W, or 180 W. Describe how the two filaments are arranged in the bulb, and calculate the resistance of each filament.
b.) suppose the filament w/ the higher resistance burns out. How much power will the light bulb dissipate on each of the 3 brightness settings? What will be the brightbess (l,m,h) on each setting?
c.) Repeat part b for the situation where it is the filament w/ the lover resistance that burns out.

Physics: How to calculate electricity efficient?

what is the formula for calculating how efficient energy is? also,

1.a clothes dryer has a power rating of 4356W. It takes an acerage of 45 min to dry a load of clothes, If the dryer used 8820 KJ of energy during this time, how efficient is this dryer?

2.if a 60W light bubl in a lamp is only 20% efficientin converting electricial energy in to light energy, how many joules of light energy does this light bulb produceeach minute?

3.The heating element in a ketel has a resistance of 10 ohms pluged into a 110V outlet. When heating water, only 75% of energy produced is actually asorbed by hte water. How much heat energy does the water absorb if it takes 4 minutes to boil?

4a. how much energy will 100W light bubl convert to light if it on for 1 hour?
4b.If bulb is 15% efficient @ converting electricity in2 light, how must energy has been lost to heat?

full solutions/ explainations please.

Is there an LED light bulb that will screw into a regular light bulb socket?

I want to buy one for my aquarium because they are so much brighter, but I’m not sure if ti will screw into a regular light bulb socket or not. Please let me know. Also, which are brighter, incandescents or compact fluorescents?

How can I create experiment to light a simple light bulb with solar energy?

I dont want to buy any expensive parts…….

What is the most simple and basic and low cost gizmo that I can create from scratch where I use solar energy to power a light bulb and be able to store the power in a battery to be used on demand?
