light problem?
Suppose you got home, enter your house, hit the light switch, and nothing happens, no light floods the room. WHAT EXACTLY, IN ORDER, are the steps you would take in determining what the problem was?

My landlord installed an outdoor motion detector light a few days ago and the flood lights on it aren’t working. I know that the light switch that operates it works because the other light that is on that particular switch works and I know that the light unit works because when I walk by it, a red light starts blinking. I thought that it was just because it has a solar cell, however, I was coming in from work at 11:00 PM last night, when it is completely dark outside, and it still wasn’t working. What could be wrong with this thing? I’ve already called my landlord to notify him of this problem, however, he is very difficult to get in contact with. Thanks!
There are three controls on the light: a sensitivity control, which is turned to maximum, a timer control, and some little whitish-greyish button.
This is kind of what the unit looks like

I had a new light switch put on my 1991 toyota pick-up a while back. Ever since then it takes about 10 minutes or so before my tail lights will come on, and this only happens when it’s very cold outside. If it’s the outdoor temperature is fairly warm there’s no problem. Maybe the mechanic mixed up some wires when he had the steering wheel off?
The reason for replacing the light switch was because the headlights both went out at the same time. The mechanic said that the light switch went bad, so he replaced both the switch and the headlights. The tail lights never had a problem until now.
I have a floodlight at the front of my house that I need to have removed and installed at a location in the back of my house. In order for the floodlight to be installed in the backyard, a new light switch will need to be installed along with the installation of the light itself. Obviously electrical cables will need to be run too.
I’m not sure who to start calling. Do I call a general contractor, or can an electrician do all of the work involved?
All the plugs have power when you test them (122.2 volts) but when i pulled out the light switch and tested those wires i got a very low voltage reading. whats going on?
i removed the light switch (took it out )and the wires are reading 25 volts of power
i have an outlet and light switch on adjacent walls of each other. I couldn’t figured out what’s wrong with the outlet- the wiring looks like the rest of the working outlets, but this one doesn’t work. When I remove the faceplate of the light switch ( switch to turn on outdoor light) I see two cables – each have a black, white and cooper (ground??) wires. the two black wires are connected to the light switch while the two white wires are connected to each other with a cap, and same as the cooper(ground) wire. for some reason it doesn’t look right. the light switch use to work once in awhile, but not anymore. Anyone have a clue what’s wrong with it? thanks in advance
Just moved into a new house and there’s this light switch that controls the front outdoor light by the door. It looks very new but I can’t find it anywhere online or a brand name to run a search. Here’s my question:
Its a very simple looking design with just a spinning wheel that has the 24 hours listed like a clock. If you push the ‘wheel’ the lights goes on, push it again they turn off. Does anyone have any idea of how to set the timer on it so the lights go off and on automatically? I’ve tried spinning it to 4pm pressing the button and then turning it to 6am and pressing it again… I have no idea how to set this thing. Also, the wheel is stationery at all times – so it doesnt automatically spin around like one of those light timers you plug into a lamp…
Help please….
I found just 1 small photo of it online – no additional details at all:

I have a light-switch to an outdoor light that has not worked, so I checked the voltage on the switch and I am only getting 60 volts instead of 120, any ideas what is wrong and how to repair?
I installed a new 15 amp light switch in my garage. Its just hooked to a 150watt outdoor flood. Every time I turn the switch off there is a bright blue spark. What could I have done wrong? Should I upgrade to 20amp. By the way this house has really old wiring and there is no ground in the electrical box. Could that be my problem? Please help.
I had a flood coming through my ceiling. Now the light switch on the wall that got wet (but has dried out) doesn’t work. I replaced the switch and the socket, but it still doesn’t work. What more do I need to check? What could be wrong?
