Is LED-LCD back-lighting really worth it?

I’m shopping for a new TV and I’m not certain that the LED-LCD back-lighting that some new TVs have is necessarily worth the money.
It seems really cool, and it seems like it improves durability and longevity.
But I just want some second opinions about this.

I should mention that the purpose of this TV would be largely for console gaming. Also would be streaming HD video from my PC.

I need to see this actually in use in the store
- and I need to have time to fiddle with the picture settings on other TVs because they *do* set TVs picture settings to a poorer quality when they’re not trying to promote them as much -
But I need to see this for myself because I really haven’t.

Anyway I’m torn between 2 options at about a similar price
* Get a 46" TV with LED-LCD
* Get a 55" TV without LED-LCD

That’s a big TV at 55 inches, and I don’t care what size of room you’re in the bigger the better right? I’m only sitting about 8 feet away from my TV in my small apartment but a gigantic TV is what it’s all about isn’t it?

But I could get a smaller TV at a similar price that boasts very crisp black levels, even lighting, and high contrast.

What can you tell me about the quality of the LED back-lighting?
Your thoughts on my options?

How would you deal with an unruly neighbor?

Six months ago I bought a house in what I thought was a nice, quiet, friendly, safe neighborhood.

Five months ago I started having trouble with my across the street neighbor’s 19 year old son and his friends.

This kid is bad news. I’ve read about him in the paper having been arrested several times, underage DUI, drugs, and abusing his girlfriend. He and his buddies like to sit in the front yard and glare at me or my guests any time we’re out (like the mean mugging stare where they get all quiet and just stare at you, trying to be intimidating)

Around Thanksgiving "someone" tied a condom to one of my landscaping lights. About two weeks after that, someone piled dog shit all over my front steps. That’s the only house around that has a dog.

Now this guy’s friends like to cut through my yard to get to the street behind me. When they come through, its usually at 1:00 AM or some time like that, they are loud, and throw snowballs at my bedroom window when there is snow on the ground. They throw empty beer cans in my yard, cigarette butts, etc.

On Christmas at 11:30 PM, someone was at my back door pounding on the door, and then ran away when I turned the outside light on.

I called the police that time, as I have had enough. The officer said that they need to catch them in the act, and suggested getting a video survelance system.

Before I go and spend 0.00 on something like that, what are some ideas of how to deal with this?

I’ve already thought about telling his mom, but I don’t want to go that route because that may just make things worse as it will make me look like some wussy.

Has anyone else dealt with something like this?

I’ve seriously never interacted with this guy in any way to become a target of his. I’m almost never home, and I used to say hello when I saw him out until 2 months of getting no response caused me to stop trying to be friendly.

What do you all think?

$ saving tips for outdoor wedding?

Hello…We are havin an outdoor casual wedding on a seriously small budget. I would appreciate any input on ways to save $….specifically on music, bridal party clothing, decorations, lighting, outdoor tents n beverages. We have the reception food covered(thanks to some awesome friends) It is not really a redneck wedding …but we are using straw bales for seating….and the dress is going to be pretty casual…would like simple dresses and the guys may wear tux tshirts…..just to give you a feel. There will not be camo…or 4 wheelers….LOL…well maybe @ the reception…but NOT during the wedding…
Yeah…i know it is a little redneck adn tacky to most people already..but we really just want to have fun and lots of friends and family…..and the camera idea is a good one…we had actually planned to do that already..thank you..one big problem is…1/2 the guests are drs and white collar folks….the other 1/2 are a little "countriefied" LOL..its going to be interesting.
And it is in the boonies..and we have plenty of room a cpl people are bringing their campers..and its in JUly..this year

How do I hook up this LED light to a battery?

Here is the light – http://www.flickr.com/photos/31355277@N03/ I would prefer the battery be rechargeable and not too large. I would like for the battery to power this thing for a while, this isn’t temporary or to test the light. I’m not sure how many volts this little device is, but it is a blue LED light(or rather 4 little LED lights or "bulbs"), and you see the 2 wires. Thank you!

I have a 1981 corvette. I just bought a pair of LED tail lights. do I need to buy any additional equipment.?

I see that other equipment is offered for the LED tail lights to operate properly. Do I have to buy these things, or is it possible for the lights to work without them. U don"t really want to purchase an item then continuously purchase additional items to get the first one to work.

How do i clean a landscape rockery / retaining wall?

I have a retaining wall in my backyard that uses 1 and 2 man size rock. When it was first put in the rock had a light blue-grey color, now after about 10 years the rocks have a dark charchol color to them. I want the lighter color back. The color change is not from dirt, but more of a fading. I don’t think pressure washing will help, so I am wondering if anyone else has ever try to bring back the "new" look of their rockery. Did you use some kind of acid/minerals/chemicals?
The rocks are in a wall and are 1000-1500 pounds, they can’t be moved or the wall will fall down, plus I am not that strong

Truck voltage dropping when stereo is cranked up..?

Here’s the deal, I’ve got an ’05 F-150 with a pioneer head unit, 2 Audiobahn 12" subs and a 3500 watt amp, currently running at about 1900 watts @ 2 Ohms RMS. I’ve been watching my voltage drop alot more lately when I’m sitting at red lights. At driving speeds, the voltage stays around 14.0 to 13.6. When I sit at a red light however, it goes as low as 12.7. I have to pretty much turn off the amp at night, as all my lights get some dim and flicker on the hard bass notes. I’ve heard I need a bigger battery… or a H.O. Alternator … and a few other opinions. What do I really need to do to stop this?

Isn't it obvious that becoming energy efficient saves money?

New jobs are created and pollution is dramatically reduced:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29225954/

"Over a five-year period starting in July, the city will retrofit 140,000 of its residential street lights with LEDs, officials said during City Hall news conference. The project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 40,500 tons and save million annually."
Those folks not out replacing lights can do other things which are more productive.

And further, we save on fuel costs etc maintaining those old lights…
