What would you sacrifice in the name of "climate change"?

So I read a story today about 600 protesters detained in Denmark. This made me think…

No one should dispute that the burning of fossil fuels will cause global warming. But we just need to embrace it and adapt to its consequences. Who cares if the Miami or NYC shoreline rises 5 feet in the next 200 years? Or even the next 50 years. We will re-build. We will adapt.

Who’s to say that Al-Qaida or Iran wouldn’t trigger a global nuclear holocaust in the next 5 years? Don’t you think that war is more important? If a major US city got flooded like New Orleans TOMORROW, it would spur the largest city re-construction ever, creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs.

Being energy efficient costs more money. It costs more for big corporations, and they pass the costs onto us, the consumers. It’s great that some people can use solar panels on their roofs, and can afford the the energy efficient light bulbs. But not all of us have that kind of money to spend.

We need to realize that there will NEVER be any change, and they need to focus their attention elsewhere. Let me say that again: there will never be any real change in our policies to stem climate change. Accept it. Get real.

It is so disheartening to know that some people are so passionate about all the issues that don’t matter (climate change, abortion, illegal Mexican immigration—feel free to add to this list).

American political passion is such a beautiful thing, and it’s so sad to see it wasted on stupid issues while real issues like war, national security, consumer protection, and financial regulation are being ignored. Why don’t people debate the real issues with the same fervor like they do about the stupid issues?

I wonder what would happen if U2 hosted a concert in advocacy of a consumer protection agency that would keep banks from screwing us from all those fees that they charge. Would MTV sponsor that?

The things people chose to care about blows my mind. Have my thoughts here today fallen on deaf ears?

Why won't my solar panels drive a motor?

I riped two solar panels out of some solar light and tested them. I found out that they both produce 2 volts(I have no idea on the watts or amps). I"ve hooked them up to an electric motor that can be driven by a AA battery, but when I hook the solar panels up to them nothing happens. What is wrong?

Where are the best places to look for Grant funding for an Eco friendly school rennovation project?

Our school wants to install solar panels or do some kind of project to make our school more energy efficient or help the environment. We thought about solar panels or replacing the lights with low energy fluorescent bulbs. We need funding. Does anyone know what places would be willing to fund our project. Please we need all teh help we can get. Leave an answer if you know of a place or organization that would be willing to help. If you would be willing to help too please leave a comment. We are located in Indiana.

I am looking to go back to school, and I'm interested in trying to get a green degree. Where can I get info?

In my area, not many people are doing much to make their lives greener besides the occasional CF bulb, or recycling paper and aluminum. What I would like to do is help people take steps to green their homes and businesses. Things from using sustainable materials in remodeling, to helping them choose energy efficient lighting, to helping them determine if solar panels or wind turbines would be best for their location. I was thinking about even starting with a general contracting degree, then taking some courses or seminars to get any green certifications. Does anyone know of any websites or companies that I could contact to get more information? Or should I be looking at other types of degree programs?

Could these institutions help reverse climate change, shift off of non-renewable energy, help the environment,

And lower there costs to citizens directly or through more efficient use of tax dollars if they had energy, lighting heating and cooling efficiency programs for there buildings and started installing solar panels and other green energy on them, and used more fuel efficient transportation as well as using bio-fuel in them where possible bouying the bio-fuel industry, and tried to lower there carbon emmisions as much as possible. The instatutions and transport I was thinking of are hospitals and ambulances, grade schools and school buses, high schools, colleges, police departments and cruisers, fire departments and fire trucks, departments of public works and snowplows and mowers, jails and prisons, post offices and postal trucks, town halls and other public buildings. There are a lot of these places and these veichles across america would this make a positive difference without harmful side effects?

Why don’t solar panels collect the full spectrum of light?

As I understand current solar panels only collect visible light, is somebody working on collecting the full spectrum of light available? That means infrared, ultraviolet, x-rays and the rest of the energy put out by the sun.

why solar panels are being installed on light poles?

I pass about 3 township every day for my commute. I have seen Solar panels are been installed on the street light poles in every town that I pass.
Some of the poles do not have any Light Bulbs on the top – but still the panels are installed.
I wonder why the panels are for – Of course the obvious reason to send the light energy from the sun to the grid.
Is That it.

How can I make my house 100% energy-neutral (consumption of energy=production of energy)?

My senior project is going to involve this. I plan to cover the roof in solar panels, and maybe install a windmill, but I need other ideas as far as what I could do right in the yard/back yard (living in suburbs of Missoula, MT with little wind). I know about installing low-flow toilets and sinks or the efficient light bulbs… what else could I do on a smaller budget?
