LED lights are the way to go. they provide brighter light than traditional strings of lights. LEDs also use far less energy.

Using none would be perfect.

The most efficient are blinking LEDs. LEDs use the least amount of energy per hour on. The huge benefit comes from the blinking of the lights; you’ll be paying for half of the time they’re turned on! Disney world utilizes a lot of blinking light for their displays, and they have saved thousands of dollars doing so.
