Why is outdoor lighting low voltage?
Why is it 12 volt rather than 120 volt?

It’s far less exciting if something goes horribly wrong.

it cost less for home owners that has outside lights since a battery is charged about like a car battery that supplies the power. where as AC cost more. Some bulbs too only are rated for 12 volts

Actually, there is quite a lot of 120 volt outdoor lighting. The industry supplied low voltage outdoor lighting to provide systems with a much lower yearly operating cost, to provide a way to beautify your landscape and simple enough to be installed by most homeowners. good luck

You can get outdoor lighting with either application

It can be high voltage as well as low voltage there are several 120 volt outside lighting applications every where and 277 volt lighting as well in most parking lots.
Low voltage is less expensive for one thing and also the burial depth is a lot less for safety reasons of course and it is economical to install and most home owners can install it without knowing codes etc.
Good Luck
